Art & Adventures
Michelle Phelps: Mother, Artist, Photographer, Adventurer
Not better, just braver.
Hi, I'm Michelle. Welcome to my page. Let me catch you up a bit...
I am a self-taught (mistake-taught) artist and began my painting journey in August of 2017 while living in Colorado (born and raised).
In the early days I wasn't painting for money.
I was painting for sanity and to grasp at any ounce of self-worth that I could. It was survival.
Fast forward to 2021 when I sold everything I owned, bought a trailer, and moved to Utah to see if I could make a living on my artwork. I was living in a trailer in my friend's backyard in the middle of Ogden, UT and to my surprise my art became my only source of income and I was able to make a small name for myself as an artist.
I was known for mixing my art and my adventures and would haul my paints with me all over the mountains. I would paint while hiking, biking, skiing, stand-up paddle boarding, camping, and any other silly place that made me giggle.
At the height of my success in my art career I got pregnant with my daughter and my life changed course yet again. I continued my art journey in Utah until she was 5 months old then I packed up everything and the two of us moved to the Florida Keys to be with my parents. My art took a pause for what seemed like an eternity but in hindsight that was precious time that I was able to give to my daughter, who is arguably my finest creation yet. I sold something here or there but I never really felt inspired by the Florida landscape. The mountains still held the power in paintbrush.
We lived there for one year and then we followed my parents out to Kentucky.
Yes, Kentucky. I know, it took me by surprise too.
We are tucked away in a private little forest with a cute little farm and have been embracing all that this place has to offer. It really feels like the best place to give my daughter a slow and simple childhood with pure memories full of family and connection.
So where does that leave my art?
I don't really know but I really feel like the momentum is picking up and my inspiration is overflowing. My skills have been refined so much from 2017 and I am excited to see where we go next.
I am in a chapter of surrender, discipline, and rediscovery. But art is no longer my source of life.
It is now just a joy and pleasure that I am thankful to possess in life.
I would love to present a clear artist statement and a perfectly polished website for you but that is not where I am at in life right now, but please stay tuned!
My website currently offers a variety of prints of my most popular paintings and some apparel and accessories that I have designed using my artwork or photography.
Everything on my website is made on demand and will made for and then shipped directly to you.
My originals and other projects rarely make it to my website.
